MG Cyberster Review 2026: India’s First Electric Sports Car Experience
MG, having firmly established itself in India since the Hector’s launch in 2019, has historically focused on mass-premium segment vehicles. However, the company has recently expanded its portfolio by unveiling two halo models at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025: the luxurious M9 people mover and the exhilarating MG Cyberster electric convertible.
These vehicles are the first to be retailed through MG’s Select range of exclusive showrooms, positioning the Cyberster as the definitive option for enthusiasts seeking a thrilling driving experience. With its striking design and potent electric powertrain, it aims to deliver the visceral performance typically reserved for much pricier automobiles.
Exterior Design and Build Quality
The MG Cyberster immediately commands attention, turning heads wherever it goes. During the test drive, several onlookers inquired about the vehicle, intrigued by its unique design. It is rare to encounter a car that sparks such immediate interest, particularly given its estimated pricing.
The Cyberster’s design is punctuated by its powered scissor doors, which truly set it apart. Opening these doors in a public setting guarantees attention, and they operate smoothly at the touch of a button, featuring sensors to prevent accidental closure. Yet, the Cyberster offers more than just dramatic aesthetics.
The front fascia boasts a clean, premium appearance with narrow LED headlights complemented by distinctive petal-shaped LED daytime running lights. Combined with the wide grille, it creates a signature ‘smiling face’ that adds character to the front. The bonnet features strong creases that further accentuate its elongated look.
From the side, the Cyberster sits low and wide, perfectly embodying classic roadster proportions. The roofline flows seamlessly into the rear, and the 20-inch wheels fill the arches effectively, giving the car a balanced and muscular profile.
The rear design coherently ties the overall aesthetic together. A full-width LED light bar runs across the tail, adding a sense of width without appearing gaudy. It also incorporates eye-catching arrow-shaped LED tail lights, though a cleaner design might have been preferable without them.
Build quality is consistently impressive, with no noticeable panel gaps. The doors feel substantial and robust, and both the bonnet and boot lid are strong and well-damped.
The MG Cyberster features an electronically operated soft-top roof that retracts smoothly into the body. It can be opened or closed in approximately 10 seconds and operates quietly and efficiently. The roof can also be operated at speeds up to 50 km/h, providing convenience on the go.
The Cyberster is available in four exterior colour options:
Flare Red with Black Roof: A classic, sporty combination that highlights the car’s curves.
Nuclear Yellow with Black Roof: A vibrant, eye-catching choice that perfectly suits an electric sports car.

While all colour choices are unique and appealing, the Nuclear Yellow and Flare Red are the most visually striking options.
Interior Design and Build Quality
If the exterior commands attention, the cabin heightens the sense of occasion. The cockpit wraps around the driver, with all controls logically angled for ease of access. MG’s focus on driver-centric design is evident throughout, leaving little room for criticism from a stylistic perspective.
The driving position is decidedly low, with the dashboard positioned high and the triple-screen cluster angled inward to keep essential information within the driver’s field of vision. In most lighting conditions, the screens are crisp and legible; however, when the roof is down in bright sunlight, screen brightness feels insufficient, making information difficult to read.
The flat-bottom steering wheel features a dual-tone suede leather finish and includes a red circular ‘Super Sport’ button for MG’s launch control system, enabling quick starts without navigating menus.
Similar to the dashboard, the cabin utilizes a premium mix of leather, suede, and soft-touch plastics. While most functions are managed via the screens, essential controls like drive modes and regenerative braking levels are handled by physical toggles and switches, which have a satisfying tactile feel.
Seats
In true roadster fashion, the Cyberster seats only two occupants. These are snug, supportive sport seats tailored to the car’s performance focus. For drivers around six feet tall, the driving position is ideal, offering sufficient legroom and adequate headroom even with the roof raised.
However, taller drivers, exceeding 6.5 feet, may find comfort challenging. Their knees might brush against the steering column, and their head may touch the roof lining. This is a common characteristic of compact sports cars, as models like the Porsche Cayman/Boxster can also feel cramped for exceptionally tall occupants.
The cushioning strikes a balance between firmness and comfort, making it suitable for longer drives. The seats are well-equipped with powered adjustment, ventilation, heating, and memory functions featuring a welcome retract feature. Visibility is reasonably good for a low-slung car, although thick rear pillars limit the rearward view.
A surprising omission is the manually adjustable rearview mirror, which feels out of place in an otherwise premium cabin. Consequently, drivers must rely heavily on the camera system when parking or reversing. Despite the low seating position, ingress and egress are easier than expected but still require a duck-and-slide motion typical of roadsters.
Storage and Practicality
This vehicle is not designed for utility, and it does not pretend to be. Cabin storage is minimal, limited to the essentials. It includes a small glovebox operated by a button, a cubby hole on the central tunnel, a pair of cupholders, and limited space under the armrest.
Due to the scissor door design, the only accessible storage is a small compartment with a lid, suitable for stowing small items like a wallet or power bank.
Charging Options
While the Cyberster skimps on practicality, it offers more than adequate charging solutions. It features a wireless charging pad conveniently located in the central console, holding the phone securely even during spirited driving. Additionally, both USB Type-A and Type-C ports are available for both occupants, supporting both wired phone charging and media connectivity.
Features
The MG Cyberster boasts a driver-focused triple-screen layout within the cabin. This configuration includes a 10.25-inch central screen flanked by two 7-inch screens on either side. While the layout appears modern, the side screens are partially obscured by the steering wheel, making it challenging to view certain information while driving.
The leftmost 7-inch screen serves as the infotainment system, featuring a sharp display that supports wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which performed smoothly during testing. However, a significant issue encountered was the non-intuitive user interface (UI). Users often need to navigate through multiple menus to find basic settings, requiring a learning curve to master.
In contrast, the third screen feels much more purposeful. Positioned at the side, it displays genuinely useful information such as weather updates, charging status, remaining range, and time-related details including the current time, charging duration, and estimated time to full charge. The interface is clean and easy to read, with a layout that is intuitive and comprehensible at a glance.
A separate touchscreen located below the infotainment system controls interior climate settings. This layout maintains a tidy and minimalistic dashboard but proved tricky to operate while driving. Simple tasks like adjusting temperature or fan speed became difficult, highlighting that physical buttons would have enhanced usability.
The 8-speaker Bose sound system is a standout feature, delivering clear, well-balanced audio with crisp vocals and solid bass.
Safety
The MG Cyberster has yet to undergo crash testing by global organizations or Bharat NCAP, so its real-world crash performance remains unknown.
The vehicle comes equipped with essential safety features, including four airbags, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control (ESC), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and front and rear parking sensors. It also includes a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite with amenities such as adaptive cruise control and collision mitigation assist.
Boot Space
The MG Cyberster offers approximately 250 litres of boot space, with the usable capacity remaining constant whether the roof is up or down. In terms of practicality, it can accommodate two cabin-sized trolleys and a few backpacks, which is sufficient for short road trips and scenic drives.
Performance

Since the test drive was limited to closed tracks, drawing definitive conclusions about overall performance is challenging. However, MG claims a 0–100 km/h sprint time of 3.2 seconds. True to its electric nature, the car accelerates with effortless ease. For reference, the Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica achieves the same acceleration time!
