But does the MG Cyberster truly live up to its aspirations? After a full week behind the wheel, the verdict is in.
Exterior: A Sensation That Demands Attention
First impressions are paramount, and the MG Cyberster delivers an unmissable statement. During the extended test drive period, the vehicle consistently drew unsolicited attention, with inquisitive pedestrians frequently approaching to learn more about the striking roadster. It is rare to encounter a vehicle that elicits such an immediate and visceral response, particularly within the luxury segment where such models are often reserved for niche audiences.
The MG Cyberster is distinguished by several unique design elements. Foremost among these are the electrically powered scissor doors. Raising these doors in a public space guarantees instant visual impact and immediate engagement. Operating smoothly and precisely at the touch of a button, the doors incorporate integrated sensors to prevent accidental closures. However, the Cyberster’s appeal extends far beyond these dramatic aesthetic features.
Design and Build Quality
The front profile of the MG Cyberster is notably clean and visually arresting. It features narrow, sophisticated LED headlights complemented by distinctive petal-shaped LED daytime running lights. The driving position in the MG Cyberster is low, with a high-mounted dashboard that incorporates a triple-screen layout, curved inward to ensure all critical information remains within the driver’s immediate field of view. In most lighting conditions, the screens are crisp and legible. However, during periods of direct sunlight with the top down, the brightness levels prove inadequate, rendering the displayed information difficult to read and potentially distracting.
The MG Cyberster features a flat-bottom steering wheel with a dual-tone suede leather finish. At approximately six feet tall, I found the driving position to be comfortable, with sufficient legroom and just about adequate headroom even with the roof closed.
However, taller occupants over 6.5 feet may encounter comfort challenges. Legroom is restricted, and head clearance is limited, a common characteristic of compact sports cars. Models such as the Porsche Cayman/Boxster also exhibit similar constraints for exceptionally tall drivers.
The seat cushioning is firm yet comfortable, designed to provide adequate support over extended journeys. The seats come equipped with a comprehensive array of features, including powered adjustment, ventilation, heating, and memory functions with a welcome retract feature. Visibility is surprisingly good for a low-slung vehicle, though the thick rear pillars compromise the rearward field of view.
One particularly noticeable oddity is the manually adjustable inside rearview mirror, which feels inconsistent with the premium cabin environment. It also fails to provide a comprehensive rear view, necessitating reliance on the camera system during parking maneuvers. Nonetheless, entering and exiting the vehicle is easier than anticipated for a sports car, requiring only a minor duck and maneuver typical of the roadster configuration.
Storage and Practicality
The MG Cyberster is fundamentally a driver’s car, not a utility vehicle, and it makes no pretenses otherwise. Cabin storage is minimal, confined to essential items. It includes a small glovebox operated via a button, a cubby hole on the central console, a pair of cupholders, and limited space under the armrest.
Due to the unique operation of the scissor doors, the only storage available in the cabin is a small pocket with a closable lid, suitable only for small items such as a wallet or power bank. This aligns with the vehicle’s purpose as a weekend driver or a second/third car.

The leftmost screen, measuring 7 inches, serves as the infotainment system. However, a significant drawback encountered was the user interface (UI), which is not particularly intuitive. Locating basic settings often requires navigating through multiple menus, and users will require time to acclimate to the system.
In contrast, the third screen in the MG Cyberster feels significantly more purposeful. Positioned on the side, it displays genuinely useful data such as weather updates, charging status, range information, and time-related metrics, including the current time, charging duration, and estimated time to full charge. The interface is clean, easy to read, and logically organized, allowing for quick glances at critical information.
A separate touchscreen unit located below the infotainment system controls the climate within the cabin. This layout contributes to a tidy and minimalist dashboard design. However, operation while driving proved challenging. Simple tasks such as adjusting the temperature or fan speed required excessive attention, making physical controls a superior alternative for such operations.
The MG Cyberster is paired with an 8-speaker Bose sound system that delivers exceptional audio quality. The sound is clear, well-balanced, and rich, with crisp vocals and powerful, defined bass that enhances the immersive driving experience.
