Enter the Tata Curvv. This new coupe-style SUV has been the talk of the town since it first showed its face at a global automotive event. Tata is putting a lot of faith in design to help the Curvv stand out, but after logging hundreds of miles behind the wheel of the petrol and diesel variants, I can tell you it’s more than just a pretty face. It’s a vehicle that gets the basics right, offering a comfortable ride and an impressive list of features. But is the interior “copy-paste” job from the Tata Nexon holding it back?

The Curvv’s Blueprint: A Design Masterpiece or Mimicry?
The moment the Tata Curvv was unveiled, the first thing that grabbed my attention was its styling. While Tata has proven it can design sharp-looking cars, the Curvv takes a different approach. The coupe-SUV design is striking and immediately makes the Curvv stand out in a segment flooded with conventionally styled, upright compact SUVs.
The Coupe Quandary: What Even IS a Coupe SUV?
In traditional automotive parlance, a “coupe” is a two-door sports car with a sleek, streamlined silhouette. When applied to an SUV, the term “coupe SUV” is used more loosely to describe a vehicle that combines the aggressive, sloping roofline of a coupe with the raised ride height and utility of an SUV.
While some designers might argue the proportions of the Curvv push the boundaries of the traditional coupe form factor, Tata has succeeded in creating a visual identity that looks cohesive. From the front three-quarter view, the Curvv’s design is undeniably automotive-modern and aggressive. It feels like a natural evolution of Tata’s existing design language.
Exterior Design and Build Quality
New Tata cars are known for their ability to turn heads, and the Curvv is no exception. The coupe-SUV design stands out and creates a strong visual identity that sets it apart from competitors like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
However, there is a definite resemblance to the Tata Nexon, especially when looking at the front end. Tata has tried to give the Curvv its own identity with a connected LED daytime running lamp (DRL) setup, distinctive grille accents, and slightly reworked creases around the headlamp enclosure. But if you happen to glance at the Curvv in your rear-view mirror, you might miss the difference.
The side profile and rear are where the Curvv truly diverges from the rest of the pack. The wheelbase has been stretched by 60mm, making the Curvv a substantial 4.3-meter-long SUV. Executing a sloping roofline with such tight proportions is a difficult task, but Tata has managed to deliver here. The coupe-style roofline transitions smoothly into the rear hatch, creating an athletic and muscular stance.
Flush-fitting door handles (with nifty marker lights) are offered as standard across all variants, which adds a layer of sophistication. Large 18-inch alloy wheels look size-appropriate, giving the Curvv a nice stance. Lower variants feature 16- and 17-inch wheels. Tata has opted for gloss black for the wheel arch cladding, which is a questionable choice from a design and durability perspective. While it provides good contrast against the body color, this finish is highly prone to scratches and swirl marks, especially in our dusty environments.
At the rear, the connected LED lighting looks swanky and features a cool animation when locking and unlocking the vehicle. Small details like the tiny spoiler on the windscreen, the shark fin antenna, and vertical reflectors on the bumper add to the overall design and road presence.
Build Quality and Material Quality
As you’d expect from a Tata vehicle in 2026, the build quality of the Curvv feels solid and robust. Our test cars had no major issues with panel gap inconsistencies or build tolerances. The chassis feels rigid and the doors close with a reassuring thud. Tata Motors is now a leader in this space, and it’s clear that quality control is a top priority.
However, the interior does not feel as premium as the exterior looks. There is a noticeable lack of material differentiation across the variants, which makes the base trims feel a bit too much like the entry-level Nexon. While the top variants feature upgraded materials, there’s a missed opportunity to inject more premium touches throughout the lineup.
The Interior Experience: Familiar Faces, Unexpected Shortcomings
Stepping inside the Tata Curvv, you’ll immediately notice that the cabin experience is almost identical to the new Nexon. For some buyers, this copy-paste job might just be a dealbreaker. Thankfully, the updated Nexon’s dashboard isn’t a bad place to start. It is modern, functional, and easy to use.
Design and Quality
Getting in and out of the car is an easy affair. Elders in the family should have no issues with ingress and egress, both, at the front and rear. Once you’re seated in the front seat, you’d immediately draw parallels with the new Nexon.
Quality of materials is acceptable for a vehicle in this class, but it’s not segment-leading. Fit and finish seemed par for the course on our test car as well. Tata has opted for a soft-touch leatherette padding on the mid-portion of the dashboard and the door cards which does its bit in making the cabin feel premium.
Lower variants of the Curvv get the 2-spoke steering wheel from the Nexon, whereas higher variants get the 4-spoke steering wheel from the Harrier/Safari. As you’d expect, there are different interior themes based on the variant you pick — Black for the base-spec Smart, Grey for the Pure, Blue for the Creative and a dual-tone Lalitpur Grey (grey) and Plush Benecke-Kalik (beige) shade for the Accomplished.
Front Seats and Comfort
As far as space is concerned, front seat occupants should have no issues with width. Headroom might feel a little tight if you’re above 6ft tall or wear a turban. The driver gets a 6-way powered seat with ample travel. However, the steering wheel only adjusts for tilt, not reach. This is why you might find yourself sitting further back than you usually do, thereby eating away at the rear kneeroom.
The seats themselves are quite comfortable with slightly firm cushioning. Average-sized adults should have no issues with support either. However, larger occupants might find shoulder support to be less than ideal. There’s a central armrest that might feel like it’s placed too low for taller drivers.
Rear Seats and Space
For a six-footer seated behind another, there’s a fist’s worth of kneeroom to be had. The Curvv is far from being the most spacious vehicle in the segment. Footroom is acceptable. However, with that coupe roofline, headroom might feel tight too. Seating three abreast in the rear seat is possible, but not ideal. While there’s a proper seatbelt for the middle occupant, there’s no headrest which can be a bother on longer journeys. We’d rather enjoy the central armrest and use the Curvv as a spacious four-seater.
Do note that the frontal visibility is also compromised due to the large front seats. The sharply dropping coupe roofline also takes away from sideward visibility.
Rear AC vents are available in all variants except for the base-spec Smart model. The Dark models additionally get rear sunshades.
Storage and Practicality
The Curvv inherits all the annoyances of the Nexon. There’s no real storage space in the centre console except for the under the front armrest. The shallow slot under the climate control panel is inconvenient to use and cupholders are tucked away in the glovebox making them unusable while driving.
There are slim bottle holders in all four doors and rear occupants get two cupholders in the central armrest. Oddly enough, front seat back pockets are missing.
