As we navigate through 2026, Tata Motors has thrown its hat into the ring with the Curvv – an intriguing proposition that aims to challenge established leaders like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Toyota Hyryder, and even dip into the premium territory of the Tata Harrier and MG Hector. This comprehensive review, written from the perspective of a seasoned industry analyst with a decade of experience in the automotive sector, will dissect the Tata Curvv to determine if this bold design choice is enough to capture the attention of US buyers. The Tata Curvv represents a compelling departure from conventional SUV styling, attempting to fuse the aggressive stance of an off-roader with the aerodynamic sleekness of a coupe. This design language has been polarizing in the Indian market, and it will be fascinating to see how it resonates in the US, where traditional SUV forms often dominate. However, Tata Motors has a track record of challenging the status quo, and the Curvv appears to be their latest attempt to carve out a niche in a segment saturated with well-established competitors. The Design Enigma: A Bold Statement for the US Consumer
Tata Motors has never shied away from making a statement with its vehicle designs, and the Tata Curvv is no exception. The coupe-SUV silhouette is striking and unique, an element that has always been a strong selling point for drivers who want their vehicles to reflect their individualistic style. The design features a flowing, sloping roofline that tapers towards the rear, mimicking the profile of a two-door sports car, but positioned on a raised platform typical of an SUV. The front fascia of the Curvv borrows heavily from the successful Nexon, but Tata has attempted to inject its own identity. Subtle tweaks to the grille accents, the lower air dam, and the creases surrounding the headlamp enclosures help differentiate it. However, to the casual observer, the familial resemblance is evident, which might be a double-edged sword. For those who love the Nexon’s design, this is a positive. For those seeking something entirely new, it might feel like a missed opportunity. Where the Tata Curvv truly distinguishes itself is in its side profile and rear styling. The wheelbase has been stretched by 60mm compared to the Nexon, resulting in a commanding 4.3-meter length. Executing such a taut design with such a significant length increase is a remarkable feat of engineering, and Tata has managed to pull it off with relative grace. Flush-fitting door handles, a premium touch usually reserved for luxury vehicles, are standard across all variants. Large 18-inch alloy wheels are available on higher trims, giving the Curvv a powerful stance and road presence. Lower variants are equipped with 16- and 17-inch wheels, which, while practical, might not convey the same sense of occasion as the larger alloys. One questionable design choice is the use of gloss black for the wheel arch cladding. While it provides a high-contrast visual appeal, it is notoriously prone to scratches and swirl marks, which could be a maintenance headache for US buyers accustomed to the durability of matte finishes. The rear of the Tata Curvv is a visual spectacle. The connected LED lighting, a trending design element in the modern automotive era, looks sleek and modern. The animation sequences on locking and unlocking the vehicle are a nice touch, adding a premium feel that elevates the ownership experience. Small details like the tiny spoiler on the windscreen, the shark fin antenna, and the vertical reflectors on the bumper add depth to the design. From the rear three-quarters view, the Curvv projects an image of sportiness and aggression, making it a head-turner on the streets. In vibrant colors like Pristine White, Daytona Grey, Flame Red, Pure Grey, Gold Essence, Opera Blue, and Nitro Crimson, the Tata Curvv stands out in a crowded market. The availability of a Dark Edition in Carbon Black adds an extra layer of exclusivity for those who prefer a stealthy and sophisticated aesthetic. As one would expect from Tata Motors, the build quality of the Tata Curvv feels solid and robust. The panel gaps on the test cars were tight and consistent, indicating a high level of manufacturing precision. US buyers place a premium on reliability and long-term durability, and Tata’s commitment to quality is evident in the craftsmanship of the Curvv. Interior Design and Quality: A Familiar Luxury Getting in and out of the Tata Curvv is an easy affair, thanks to its SUV stance and well-proportioned door apertures. Elders in the family should find ingress and egress comfortable, both at the front and rear. Once seated in the front, the cabin experience is a near-exact replica of the new Nexon. This similarity, while practical, might be a dealbreaker for some. However, it must be noted that the Nexon’s interior is a significant upgrade from previous Tata models, so it’s not a bad place to start. The quality of materials used in the Tata Curvv is acceptable for a vehicle in this class. Fit and finish seem par for the course, with an attention to detail that belies its price point. Tata has opted for soft-touch leatherette padding on the mid-portion of the dashboard and the door cards, which adds a premium feel to the cabin. The contrasting stitching on the seats and steering wheel further enhances the luxurious ambiance. The steering wheel design varies depending on the variant. Lower variants feature the two-spoke steering wheel from the Nexon, while higher variants sport the four-spoke steering wheel found in the Harrier and Safari. Different interior themes are offered across variants, catering to individual preferences. The base-spec Smart variant gets a black interior, the Pure variant has a grey theme, the Creative gets a blue theme, and the Accomplished variant boasts a dual-tone Lalitpur Grey and Plush Benecke-Kalik (beige) shade. Front seat occupants will find ample width and legroom, ensuring comfortable journeys. However, individuals taller than 6ft or those who wear a turban might find headroom slightly restricted due to the sloping coupe roofline. The driver benefits from a 6-way powered seat with ample adjustment range. However, the steering wheel is only adjustable for tilt, not reach, which might force some drivers to adopt a slightly further-back seating position, consequently reducing rear legroom.
The seats themselves are quite comfortable with slightly firm cushioning. Average-sized adults should find adequate support. However, larger occupants might find the shoulder support to be less than ideal. The central armrest feels well-placed for taller drivers, offering a comfortable place to rest their elbows. For those seated in the rear, there’s a decent amount of kneeroom for average-sized adults. The Curvv is not the most spacious vehicle in the segment, but it certainly holds its own. Footroom is acceptable. However, the sloping roofline can restrict headroom for taller occupants. Seating three abreast in the rear is possible, but not ideal. While there’s a proper seatbelt for the middle occupant, the lack of a headrest is a concerning omission, especially for longer journeys. In practice, most US buyers will likely enjoy the Curvv as a spacious four-seater. Visibility is compromised due to the large front seats and the sharply dropping coupe roofline. However, Tata has addressed this with a host of advanced driver-assistance systems that compensate for the blind spots. Rear AC vents are available in all variants except the base-spec Smart model. The Dark models additionally feature rear sunshades, adding a touch of luxury and convenience. Storage and practicality in the Tata Curvv inherit the annoyances of the Nexon. There’s no dedicated storage space in the center console except for the area under the front armrest. The shallow slot under the climate control panel is inconvenient to use, and the cupholders are tucked away in the glovebox, making them unusable while driving. Slim bottle holders are present in all four doors, and rear occupants get two cupholders in the central armrest. Notably, front seat back pockets are missing, a minor oversight that could have been easily avoided. Features: A Tech-Forward Package for the US Market Here’s a snapshot of the basic functional features available on the Tata Curvv: Keyless Entry: Allows for keyless entry and push-button start stop. Electronic Parking Brake: Standard across all variants with auto-hold functionality. Automatic Climate Control: Dual-zone climate control available on the Dark Edition. Automatic Headlamps and Rain-Sensing Wipers: Standard on higher variants. Auto-Dimming IRVM: Enhances driver comfort in low-light conditions. Panoramic Sunroof: A premium feature offering an open and airy cabin experience. 6-Way Powered Driver’s Seat: Adjustments for lumbar, height, and recline. Ambient Lighting: Adds a touch of luxury to the interior. The Tata Curvv comes loaded with technology, starting with the 12.3-inch touchscreen. This screen has an intuitive and easy-to-use interface with smooth graphics and quick response times. On our test, we encountered no lags, glitches, or inconsistencies. It supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and doubles as the display for the 360° camera system.
The camera system itself is among the best in the segment. It features well-executed 2D
