However, for years, MG’s lineup in the Indian market largely lacked the globally acclaimed halo models that defined the brand’s heritage. In early 2025, MG decided to change this by introducing the luxurious M9 people mover and the electrifying MG Cyberster convertible sports car at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. Both models are now available through MG’s Select range of exclusive showrooms. The Cyberster specifically targets buyers seeking an exhilarating driving experience. With its aggressive design and sporty underpinnings, it promises the thrill of high-performance vehicles that cost more than twice its price. But can this electric roadster truly deliver on those expectations? I spent a day behind the wheel of the MG Cyberster to find out. Exterior Design and Build Quality First impressions? The Cyberster turns heads like nothing else on the road. During the review period, several onlookers approached to ask about the car and express their admiration. It’s rare to encounter a MG electric sportscar that commands so much attention so quickly, particularly at this price point. The Cyberster’s design is packed with distinctive features, most notably the powered scissor doors. Opening these in a public space guarantees an immediate draw of attention. Both doors open and close at the touch of a button and feature built-in sensors to prevent accidents during operation. However, the Cyberster offers much more than just these fancy doors. MG Cyberster Front Design The front design is clean and aesthetically pleasing. It features narrow LED headlights perfectly complemented by petal-shaped LED daytime running lights. Along with the wide grille, it gives the car a distinctive smiling face that enhances the overall front design character. The hood boasts strong creases that make the front appear even longer. MG Cyberster Side Profile From the side, the Cyberster sits low and wide, perfectly showcasing its classic roadster proportions. The roofline flows smoothly into the rear, and the 20-inch wheels fill the wheel arches adequately, giving the car a well-proportioned appearance. This profile is critical for electric roadster performance, ensuring stability during high-speed maneuvers.
MG Cyberster Rear Design The rear design ties the overall look together seamlessly. It features a full-width LED light bar that runs across the tail, adding a sense of width without feeling overstated. It also includes eye-catching arrow-shaped LED taillights, although personally, I felt the design would have appeared cleaner without them. The overall build quality is impressive. There are no noticeable panel gaps, and the doors feel solid and robust. Both the hood and the boot lid feel strong and well-damped. MG Cyberster Convertible Roof It features an electronically operated soft-top roof that folds neatly into the body. It can be opened or closed in approximately 10 seconds and operates smoothly and quietly enough. Importantly, it can also be operated at speeds of up to 50 km/h. This feature is a major selling point for performance EVs, offering everyday practicality. The Cyberster is available in four exterior color options: Flare Red with a black roof Nuclear Yellow with a black roof Modern Beige with a red roof Andes Grey with a red roof While all color options are unique and elegant, the Nuclear Yellow and Flare Red grab the most attention and align best with the car’s sporty character. Interior Design and Build Quality If the exterior looks sporty, the cabin takes that feeling even further. It wraps around the driver like a true cockpit, with everything angled towards the driver. It is clear that MG has focused heavily on delivering a driver-centric experience, and from a design perspective, there is little to complain about. This focus on the MG Cyberster interior makes it stand out in the crowded EV market. MG Cyberster Dashboard You sit low, the dashboard sits high, and the triple-screen layout curves inwards to keep all key information within easy view. In most situations, the screens are crisp and easy to read; however, when the roof is down and there is harsh sunshine, the brightness feels insufficient, making all information difficult to read. This is a common challenge for electric sports car cabins, but MG could improve this aspect. MG Cyberster Steering Wheel It features a flat-bottom steering wheel with a dual-tone suede leather finish. The steering wheel has a red circular ‘Super Sport’ button that can be used to access MG’s version of launch control, making it easier to launch the car without navigating through menus. This adds to the high-performance feel of the MG EV roadster. Like the dashboard, the rest of the cabin feels premium, with a mix of leather, suede, and soft-touch plastics. While most functions are accessed through the screens, there are also a few physical toggles and switches for essentials like drive modes and regenerative braking levels, all of which have a nice tactile feel. Seats In typical roadster fashion, the Cyberster offers only two seats. These are snug, supportive sport seats that suit the car’s performance-focused nature. At around six feet tall, I found the driving position spot on, with enough legroom and just about adequate headroom even with the roof up. However, my colleague, who stands over 6.5 feet tall, found it difficult to get comfortable. His knees were grazing against the steering column, and his head brushed against the roof. This is not uncommon for compact sports cars as models like the Porsche Cayman/Boxster also feel cramped for exceptionally tall users. The cushioning is firm but not uncomfortable, and it will likely remain comfortable over longer drives. The seats offer a good range of features, including powered adjustment, ventilation, heating, and memory functions with a welcome retract feature. Visibility is fairly good for a low-slung car, though the thick pillars at the back limit the rearward view.
A slightly odd detail is the manually adjustable inside rearview mirror, which feels out of place in an otherwise premium cabin. As expected, it does not provide a complete rear view, meaning you will rely heavily on the camera system when parking or reversing. Getting in and out is easier than expected, but it still requires a bit of a duck and slide, as is typical for roadsters. Storage and Practicality This is not a car built for utility, and it does not pretend to be. Cabin storage is minimal and limited to the essentials. There is a small glovebox that opens via a button, a cubby hole on the central tunnel, a pair of cupholders, and a bit of space under the armrest. Given the way the scissor doors open, the only storage area is a small pocket with a closable lid that can store only sundry items like a wallet or powerbank. While this might be acceptable for a performance EV, it’s a compromise for buyers seeking everyday practicality. Charging Options While it skimps on practicality, the charging options it offers are more than adequate. It is equipped with a wireless charging pad placed conveniently in the central console and holds the phone securely even during spirited driving. In addition, there are both USB type-A and type-C ports available for both occupants, allowing for both wired phone charging and media connectivity. Features The MG Cyberster features a driver-focused triple-screen setup inside the cabin. This setup includes a 10.25-inch screen in the middle, with two 7-inch screens on either side. While the layout looks modern, the side screens are partially hidden by the steering wheel, making it tough to see some information while driving. MG Cyberster Infotainment System The leftmost of the three screens is a 7-inch infotainment system with a sharp display that supports wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which ran without any hiccups during my test drive. But one major issue I encountered was that the user interface (UI) is not particularly intuitive. Often, I had to search through different menus to find basic settings, and it took some time getting used to. This is a key area where MG could improve the MG Cyberster user experience. MG Cyberster Utility Screen Unlike the other two screens, the third screen feels far more purposeful. Tucked to the side, it displays genuinely useful information such as weather updates, charging status, range, and even time-related details like the current time, how long the car has been charging, and how much time is left for a full charge. The interface is clean and easy to read, with a layout that makes sense at a glance. MG Cyberster Climate Controls A separate touchscreen sits below the infotainment system to control the interior climate. This layout keeps the dashboard tidy and minimalistic but proved tricky to use. Simple tasks like adjusting the temperature or fan speed were challenging while driving. Physical buttons would have made these operations much easier. MG Cyberster Sound System Mated to the touchscreen is an 8-speaker Bose sound system that made a strong impression. It produces clear, well-balanced audio with crisp vocals and solid bass. For a sports car, audio quality is important, and the Cyberster delivers. Safety The MG Cyberster is yet to be crash-tested by globally recognized safety agencies or Bharat NCAP, so its real-world crash performance remains unknown. MG Cyberster ADAS
