Yet, for years, enthusiasts in India have been left yearning for something more. Where were MG’s globally celebrated halo models? They existed, but largely remained off-limits to the Indian subcontinent, reserved for international markets. This strategic gap began to close in early 2025 when MG finally unleashed its most ambitious projects yet at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo.
Two vehicles stood out: the opulent M9 people mover and the thrilling MG Cyberster convertible sportscar. These models marked the debut of MG’s exclusive Select range of showrooms, targeting a completely different buyer. The Cyberster, in particular, is aimed at those who crave excitement—a car designed to deliver the pure, unadulterated thrill of driving for less than half the price of established luxury roadsters like the Porsche Boxster.
But as industry veterans, we approach new introductions with cautious optimism. The question isn’t just whether the MG Cyberster looks exciting, but whether it can deliver on its lofty aspirations.
I spent an immersive day behind the wheel of this striking electric roadster to find out if MG has truly cracked the code for affordable performance.
Exterior: Design And Build Quality
A Head-Turner by Design
First impressions matter, and the MG Cyberster makes a statement before you even reach the door handle. In the weeks I spent with the car, it never failed to draw attention. I recall a particular afternoon driving through downtown Delhi; a crowd had gathered around the car, and curious onlookers were constantly approaching me, asking what it was and when it would be available. This level of engagement is rare, especially at its pricing bracket, which positions it directly against premium sedans rather than dedicated sports cars.
The Scissor Door Factor: A True Conversation Starter
One of the most striking design elements of the Cyberster is its powered scissor doors. Lifting these doors in a public space is a guaranteed way to stop traffic. With the push of a button, both doors rise gracefully, accompanied by subtle hydraulic whirring. MG has integrated anti-pinch sensors into the door mechanism, providing a reassuring safety net during operation. Both the bonnet and the boot lid also feel solid and are well-damped when opened. The car is equipped with an electronically operated soft-top roof that folds neatly into the bodywork. The mechanism is surprisingly quick, capable of opening or closing in approximately 10 seconds. It is clear that MG has focused heavily on delivering a driver-centric experience, and from a design perspective, there is little to complain about.
The Triple-Screen Layout: Technology on Display
You sit low in the Cyberster, the dashboard sits high, and the triple-screen layout curves inward to keep all key information within easy view. In most situations, the screens are crisp and easy to read. However, when the roof is down and there is stark sunshine, the brightness feels lacking, and all the information becomes difficult to read. This is a common challenge with convertible sports cars, but it can be annoying when trying to access navigation or adjust settings on the fly.
The ‘Super Sport’ Button: Instant Gratification
It features a flat-bottom steering wheel finished in a dual-tone suede leather. The steering wheel includes a red circular ‘Super Sport’ button, which can be used to access MG’s version of launch control. This feature allows drivers to launch the car with maximum acceleration without having to navigate through multiple menus. It transforms driving from a casual activity into an instant thrill, highlighting MG’s commitment to the performance-oriented buyer.

Like the dashboard, the rest of the cabin feels rich with a mix of leather, suede, and soft-touch plastics. All of these controls have a nice tactile feel and are placed within easy reach of the driver.

I am about six feet tall and found the driving position to be spot on, with enough legroom and just about adequate headroom even with the roof up.

Since my time with the Cyberster was limited to closed tracks, it would not be fair to draw definitive conclusions about its overall real-world performance. That said, MG claims a nought to 100 kmph sprint time of 3.2 seconds.
True to its EV character, the car builds speed with effortless ease. For reference, this acceleration time rivals legendary sports cars like the Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica! The acceleration is sharp, and let’s just say, you should ask your passenger to brace for the sensation of being pushed deep into their seat.
It also gets launch control, which delivers a strong push off the line and adds to the sense of urgency when you floor it.
The Cyberster’s Split Personality
The car has a notable split personality that drivers should be mindful of. In normal city driving, the power delivery is as smooth and progressive as any normal electric car. But a sharp enough nudge of the accelerator will have you rocketing ahead in a manner that should be respected. By that, we mean you should take the time to get used to its performance and also be sharp enough with your responses to brake at the right time.
Confident Braking System
Thankfully, you do get all-wheel drive (AWD) as standard, which helps put the torque down in a manner that helps keep things controlled in the hands of even amateur drivers.
It stops almost as quickly as it accelerates, which says a lot considering how quick the Cyberster feels in a straight line. The braking setup is well-judged for a car of this weight, offering strong bite and a progressive pedal feel that inspires confidence.
