While establishing itself as a formidable player in the mass-premium segment, the company has historically lagged in offering its globally recognized halo models to its Indian clientele. However, a strategic shift occurred in early 2025, marking a bold step with the unveiling of the luxurious M9 people mover and the MG Cyberster, a high-performance convertible roadster.
Both of these vehicles are positioned exclusively within MG’s Select Range showrooms, a distinct network designed to cater to discerning buyers seeking premium experiences. The MG Cyberster, in particular, targets a niche segment of enthusiasts who desire a vehicle that embodies excitement and sporty prowess. With its aggressive design and advanced chassis engineering, it aspires to deliver the thrill of performance cars that typically cost more than twice its price.
As an industry expert with extensive experience in the automotive sector, I had the privilege of spending a full day with the MG Cyberster to assess whether it truly lives up to its aspirational claims. This comprehensive review details the performance, design, technology, and practicality of this captivating electric sports car.
Exterior Design and Build Quality
From the moment it comes into view, the Cyberster commands attention like few other vehicles can. During my evaluation, several individuals approached me, curious about the car and eager to learn more about it. It is rare to encounter a vehicle that so quickly captures the interest of bystanders, especially considering the pricing bracket this car occupies.
The design of the Cyberster incorporates numerous elements that distinguish it, prominently featuring the powered scissor doors. Opening these doors in a public space guarantees turning heads. Both doors operate smoothly and close at the touch of a button. Integrated sensors are built into the doors to prevent accidents during operation, ensuring safety is paramount. However, this car offers far more than just its fancy doors.
The front of the Cyberster presents a clean and aesthetically pleasing appearance. It features narrow LED headlights that are beautifully complemented by petal-shaped LED daytime running lights. Combined with the wide grille, this design creates a distinctive “smiling face” that adds significant character to the front end. The bonnet is accentuated by strong creases that enhance the sense of length and aggression.
From the side, the Cyberster adopts a low and wide stance, a profile that truly brings out the classic proportions of a roadster. The roofline flows seamlessly into the rear, and the 20-inch wheels fill the arches perfectly, resulting in a beautifully proportioned vehicle.
The rear design of the Cyberster effectively ties the overall aesthetic together. It features a full-width LED light bar that spans the tail, conveying a sense of width without appearing overdone. It also incorporates arrow-shaped LED taillights, which are quite striking; however, in my professional opinion, the design would have appeared cleaner and more refined without them.
The overall build quality of the Cyberster is notably impressive. There are no visible panel gaps, and the doors feel substantial and robust. Both the bonnet and the boot lid feel strong and well-damped, indicating high attention to detail in manufacturing.
Additionally, the Cyberster is equipped with an electronically operated soft-top roof that folds neatly into the body. It can be opened and closed in approximately 10 seconds, operating smoothly and quietly. The roof can also be managed at speeds of up to 50 km/h, offering convenience for drivers on the go.
The MG Cyberster is offered in four distinctive exterior color options:

While all the color options are unique and elegant, the Nuclear Yellow and Flare Red variants are particularly eye-catching and often generate the most excitement.
Interior Design and Build Quality
If the exterior looks sporty, the interior elevates that feeling to a new level. The cabin wraps around the driver like a premium cockpit, with all controls and displays angled inward to ensure all essential information is within easy view. It is clear that MG has focused extensively on delivering a driver-centric experience, and from a design standpoint, there is little room for complaint.
You sit low in the cabin, the dashboard sits high, and the triple-screen layout curves inward to keep all key information easily accessible. In most lighting conditions, the screens are crisp and easy to read. However, when the roof is down and there is bright sunshine, the brightness level feels insufficient, making it difficult to view the information displayed on the screens.
The Cyberster features a flat-bottom steering wheel finished in a dual-tone suede leatherette. The steering wheel includes a red circular ‘Super Sport’ button that provides access to MG’s proprietary launch control system. This innovative feature simplifies launching the car without requiring drivers to navigate through complex menus.
Similar to the dashboard, the rest of the cabin feels rich, incorporating a mix of leatherette, suede, and soft-touch plastics. While most functions are accessible through the screens, the car also features a few physical toggles and switches for essential operations such as drive modes and regenerative braking levels. These controls offer a nice tactile feel, enhancing the overall driver experience.
Seats
In typical roadster fashion, the Cyberster offers only two seats. These are snug, supportive sport seats designed to complement the car’s performance-focused nature. I stand approximately six feet tall and found the driving position to be perfect, with ample legroom and just about sufficient headroom even with the roof in place.
However, my colleague, who is over 6.5 feet tall, found it challenging to get comfortable. His knees were brushing against the steering column, and his head was brushing the roofliner. This, however, is not uncommon for compact sports cars; models like the Porsche Cayman and Boxster also feel cramped for exceptionally tall individuals.
The seat cushioning is firm but not uncomfortable, providing adequate support for longer drives. The seats offer a comprehensive list of features, including powered adjustment, ventilation, heating, and memory functions with a unique welcome retract feature. Visibility is reasonably good for a low-slung car, although the thick rear pillars somewhat limit the rearward view.
One peculiar feature is the manually adjustable interior rearview mirror, which feels out of place in an otherwise premium cabin. As might be expected, it does not provide a complete view of the rear, requiring drivers to rely heavily on the camera system when parking or reversing. Getting in and out is easier than anticipated; however, it still requires a degree of ducking and sliding, typical of roadster vehicles.
Storage and Practicality
The Cyberster is not designed for utility, nor does it pretend to be. Cabin storage is minimal and limited to the essentials. There is a small glovebox that opens via a button, a cubby hole in the central tunnel, a pair of cupholders, and some space under the armrest.
Given the way the scissor doors open, the only viable storage area is a small pocket with a closable lid. This compartment can accommodate only small items such as a wallet or power bank.
Charging Options
While the MG Cyberster skimps on practicality, its charging options are more than adequate. It is equipped with a wireless charging pad conveniently located in the central console, which holds the phone securely even during spirited driving. In addition, both USB Type-A and Type-C ports are available for both occupants, allowing for both wired phone charging and media connectivity.
Features
The MG Cyberster features a driver-focused triple-screen setup inside the cabin. This arrangement includes a 10.25-inch screen in the center, flanked by two 7-inch screens on either side. While the layout looks modern, the side screens are obscured by the steering wheel, making it difficult to view certain information while driving.
The leftmost screen is a 7-inch infotainment system with a sharp display that works with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which operated without any hitches during my usage. However, a significant issue I encountered was that the user interface (UI) is not particularly intuitive. I often found myself searching through different menus to find basic settings, and it took considerable time to adjust to it.
Unlike the other two screens, the third screen in the MG Cyberster feels much more purposeful. Positioned on the side, it displays genuinely useful information such as weather updates, charging status, range, and even time-related details like the current time, charging duration, and estimated time remaining for a full charge. The interface is clean and easy to read, with a layout that intuitively makes sense at a glance.
A separate touchscreen is located below the infotainment system to control the car’s climate. This layout keeps the dashboard tidy and minimalistic, but I found it tricky to use. Simple tasks like adjusting the temperature or fan speed proved challenging while driving. Physical buttons would have made these operations significantly easier.
Mated to the touchscreen is an 8-speaker Bose sound system that made a strong impression. It produces clear, well-balanced audio with crisp vocals and solid bass, creating an immersive listening experience.
Safety
The MG Cyberster has not yet been crash-tested by any authority, either globally or in India through Bharat NCAP. Consequently, its real-world crash performance remains unknown.
It is equipped with essential safety features, including four airbags, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control (ESC), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and front and rear parking sensors.
