H1706019_Cute baby bear rescue by a man Wild Tales The Electric Thrill: A Comprehensive Expert Review of the MG Cyberster in 2026 MG has solidified its presence in the Indian automotive landscape since its debut in 2019, establishing itself as a formidable competitor in the mass-premium segment. However, a notable absence in the brand’s Indian portfolio has been the celebrated halo models that have gained global acclaim. This trend shifted in early 2025 when MG unveiled the M9 people mover and the highly anticipated MG Cyberster convertible roof sportscar at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. Both newcomers are the first vehicles to be offered through MG’s exclusive Select network of dealerships, with the Cyberster targeting a discerning clientele seeking excitement and automotive artistry. Distinguished by its aggressive styling and advanced sporty underpinnings, the MG Cyberster aims to deliver the visceral thrill of machines that typically command a price tag more than twice its own. But does it truly live up to its lofty aspirations? I spent a day immersed in the MG Cyberster experience to ascertain its merits, navigating the dynamic demands of this premium electric roadster. Exterior: Striking Design and Impeccable Build Quality The first encounter with the MG Cyberster is a show-stopping affair. During my tenure with the vehicle, I consistently drew attention, with multiple passersby inquiring about the car and seeking further details. It is rare to find a vehicle that commands such immediate intrigue, especially within this pricing bracket. Several design elements contribute to the Cyberster’s distinctive profile, notably the powered scissor doors. Deploying these doors in a public setting is guaranteed to draw attention and spark conversations. Both doors operate smoothly with a simple touch and incorporate sensors to prevent accidental collisions during opening and closing sequences. However, the MG Cyberster offers more than just its theatrical entrance. MG Cyberster Front Design The front fascia presents a clean and aesthetically pleasing appearance. It features narrow LED headlights beautifully complemented by petal-shaped LED daytime running lights. Combined with the wide grille, the front design exudes a distinctive, confident smile that significantly enhances the car’s character. Prominent creases on the bonnet accentuate the sense of length and muscle at the front. MG Cyberster Side Profile
From the side, the Cyberster sits low and wide, a profile that highlights its classic roadster proportions. The roofline flows gracefully into the rear, and the substantial 20-inch wheels perfectly fill the wheel arches, resulting in a harmoniously proportioned and poised stance. MG Cyberster Rear Aesthetics The rear design of the Cyberster masterfully ties together the overall aesthetic. It boasts a full-width LED light bar running across the taillights, which effectively imparts a sense of width without appearing overly busy. It also features eye-catching arrow-shaped LED tail lights, although, in my judgment, the design would have benefited from a cleaner execution without them. Build Quality and Materials The overall build quality is genuinely impressive, with no discernible panel gaps. The doors possess a reassuring heft and robustness, and both the bonnet and the boot lid feel solid and well-damped. Furthermore, it incorporates an electronically operated soft-top roof that folds neatly into the bodywork. This mechanism operates swiftly, often completing its cycle in approximately 10 seconds, and executes its function smoothly and quietly. The roof can be opened or closed while the vehicle is traveling at speeds of up to 50 km/h. Exterior Color Options The MG Cyberster is available in four exterior color options: Flare Red with a black roof Nuclear Yellow with a black roof Modern Beige with a red roof Andes Grey with a red roof While all the available colors are unique and elegant, the Nuclear Yellow and Flare Red options command the most attention on the road. The choice of color is critical in the electric sportscar segment, where personality and visual statement often take precedence over pure utility. Interior: A Driver-Centric Cockpit Experience If the exterior exudes sportiness, the cabin intensifies this feeling further. The interior wraps around the driver like a proper cockpit, with all essential controls angled ergonomically towards the driver’s position. It is evident that MG has invested significant effort in delivering a driver-centric experience, and from a design perspective, there is little to fault. MG Cyberster Dashboard Layout You sit low to the ground, the dashboard is positioned relatively high, and the triple-screen layout curves inwards to ensure all critical information remains within easy reach. In most lighting conditions, the screens are crisp and legible; however, when the roof is down and exposed to bright sunlight, the brightness level feels inadequate, making the displayed information difficult to read. This contrast highlights the importance of screen visibility, especially for users relying on Navigation for long drives. MG Cyberster Steering Wheel Design The vehicle features a flat-bottom steering wheel finished in a dual-tone suede leather material. The steering wheel is equipped with a red circular ‘Super Sport’ button that accesses MG’s proprietary launch control feature, simplifying the process of launching the car without navigating through complex menus. Cabin Materials and Ergonomics Similar to the dashboard, the rest of the cabin feels luxurious, utilizing a premium blend of leather, suede, and soft-touch plastics. While the majority of the car’s functions are accessed via the screens, there are also several physical toggle switches and buttons for essential operations such as drive modes and regenerative braking levels, all of which provide a satisfying tactile feel.
Seats: Balancing Comfort and Performance In typical roadster fashion, the Cyberster provides seating for only two occupants. These are snug, supportive sport seats, perfectly suited to the car’s performance-focused nature. I am approximately six feet tall and found the driving position to be ideal, offering ample legroom and just about adequate headroom, even with the roof fully raised. However, my colleague, who stands over 6.5 feet tall, found it difficult to achieve comfortable seating. His knees brushed against the steering column, and his head occasionally grazed the roof lining. This is a common characteristic among compact sports cars, as models like the Porsche Cayman/Boxster also present comfort challenges for exceptionally tall drivers. The cushioning is firm yet comfortable, promising good support during extended drives. The seats are well-equipped with features, including powered adjustment, ventilation, heating, and memory functions with a welcome retract feature. Visibility is reasonably good for a low-slung vehicle, although the thick rear pillars somewhat restrict the rearward view. A notable anomaly is the manually adjustable inside rearview mirror, which feels incongruous in an otherwise premium cabin. Unsurprisingly, it does not provide a comprehensive view of the rear, necessitating reliance on the camera system for parking and reversing maneuvers. Accessing the cabin is easier than anticipated but still requires a slight duck and slide, as is typical for roadsters. Storage and Practicality This is unequivocally a performance-oriented vehicle, and it makes no pretense of being a utilitarian machine. Cabin storage is minimal and limited strictly to essentials. There is a small glovebox that opens at the touch of a button, a storage cubby on the central console, a pair of cupholders, and a small storage area beneath the armrest. Charging Options and Infrastructure While it may skimp on conventional practicality, the charging options provided are more than adequate. The car is equipped with a wireless charging pad conveniently located in the central console, which held the smartphone securely even during spirited driving. Additionally, both USB Type-A and Type-C ports are available for both occupants, enabling both wired smartphone charging and media connectivity. Features and Technology: Navigating the Cyberster’s Tech Stack The MG Cyberster features a driver-focused triple-screen setup within the cabin. This configuration comprises a 10.25-inch screen in the center, flanked by two 7-inch screens on either side. While the layout appears modern, the side screens are partially obscured by the steering wheel, which makes it difficult to view certain information while operating the vehicle. Infotainment and Navigation System The leftmost screen, measuring 7 inches, serves as the infotainment system. It features a sharp display and supports wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which operated flawlessly during my testing period. However, a significant issue I encountered was the non-intuitive User Interface (UI). Frequently, I had to navigate through multiple menus to locate basic settings, and it required a considerable amount of time to adapt to the interface. Secondary Information Screen Unlike the other two screens, the third screen feels far more purposeful. Positioned off to the side, it displays genuinely useful information such as weather updates, charging status, vehicle range, and time-related details, including the current time, charging duration, and estimated time remaining for a full charge. The interface is clean and easy to read, with a layout that genuinely makes sense at a glance. Climate Control A separate touchscreen is located below the infotainment system to manage the car’s climate control. This layout keeps the dashboard clean and minimalistic, but I found it somewhat challenging to operate. Simple tasks like adjusting the temperature or fan speed proved difficult while driving. Physical buttons would have made these operations much easier, improving the overall safety and ease of driving for users. Audio System Mated to the touchscreen is an 8-speaker Bose sound system that made a strong impression. It produces clear, well-balanced audio with crisp vocals and solid bass performance. For users interested in this luxury sportscar, the sound system is an integral part of the premium experience.
