Since the debut of the MG Hector in 2019, MG has solidified its position in the Indian automotive landscape, carving out a niche as a popular mass-premium brand. While its portfolio has expanded steadily, the absence of globally recognized halo models had always been a noticeable gap. In early 2025, MG addressed this by unveiling the MG Cyberster convertible roof sportscar alongside the luxurious MG M9 people mover at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. This move marked a significant shift, introducing two vehicles positioned at the premium end of MG’s product line.
The MG Cyberster is the first model to be sold through MG’s specialized ‘Select’ range of showrooms, targeting enthusiasts who crave excitement and performance. With its aggressive styling and performance-focused chassis, the Cyberster aims to offer the thrilling experience of cars that cost significantly more, often more than double its pricing.
But can it truly deliver on these elevated aspirations? To find out, I spent a full day rigorously testing the MG Cyberster, analyzing its design, interior, performance, and overall value proposition. This comprehensive review explores whether this electric roadster is merely a style statement or a genuine driver’s car.
Exterior Design and Build Quality
First impressions of the MG Cyberster are nothing short of spectacular. From the moment it arrives on the scene, the car turns heads like few others. Throughout the review period, I was frequently approached by curious onlookers inquiring about the vehicle, eager to learn more about this avant-garde roadster. In a market saturated with SUVs and sedans, finding a car that immediately commands such attention is rare, especially within this specific MG Cyberster price segment.
The Cyberster boasts a plethora of design elements that make it stand out. The most striking feature is undoubtedly the powered scissor doors. Opening these doors in a public setting guarantees a crowd, transforming a simple entrance into a spectacle. Both doors operate smoothly at the touch of a button and incorporate built-in sensors to prevent accidents during opening and closing. However, the Cyberster’s appeal extends far beyond these fancy doors.
MG Cyberster Front Design:
The front fascia is clean, modern, and visually striking. It features narrow LED headlights beautifully complemented by petal-shaped LED daytime running lights. Combined with the wide grille, this creates a distinctive ‘smiling’ face that adds significant character to the front design. The bonnet is sculpted with strong creases that enhance the visual length of the car, giving it a more aggressive stance.
MG Cyberster Side Profile:
From the side, the Cyberster sits low and wide—the quintessential profile of a classic roadster. The roofline flows smoothly into the rear, and the 20-inch wheels fill the wheel arches perfectly, making the car appear perfectly proportioned. The overall stance is aggressive yet balanced, hinting at the performance capabilities hidden beneath the sleek exterior.
MG Cyberster Rear Design:
The rear design ties the entire aesthetic together cohesively. It features a full-width LED light bar that runs across the tail, adding a sense of width without feeling overdone. The car also sports arrow-shaped LED taillights that are quite eye-catching, although, in my opinion, the design would have been cleaner without them. They offer a unique visual signature but occasionally detract from the otherwise sleek flow of the rear end.
Build Quality and Fit-and-Finish:
The overall build quality of the MG Cyberster is notably impressive. There are no perceptible panel gaps, and the doors feel substantial and robust. Both the bonnet and the boot lid are also strong and well-damped, reflecting a high standard of engineering. This sense of solidity translates directly to the driving experience, creating confidence in the vehicle’s construction.
Soft-Top Roof:
The Cyberster is equipped with an electronically operated soft-top roof that folds neatly into the body. It can be opened or closed in approximately 10 seconds and operates smoothly and quietly. The roof can even be operated at speeds of up to 50 km/h, adding a layer of convenience often missing in this segment.
Exterior Color Options:
The MG Cyberster is available in a total of four exterior color options:

While all color options are unique and elegant, the Nuclear Yellow and Flare Red variants undoubtedly grab the most attention, perfectly suiting the car’s sporty and adventurous character.
Interior Design and Cabin Quality
If the exterior looks sporty, the cabin elevates that feeling even further. The interior wraps around the driver like a proper cockpit, with everything angled towards the driver. It is clear that MG has invested heavily in delivering a driver-centric experience, and from a design perspective, there is little to criticize.
MG Cyberster Dashboard Layout:
You sit low, the dashboard sits high, and the triple-screen layout curves inwards to keep all key information within easy view. In most situations, the screens are crisp and easy to read. However, when the roof is down and there is direct, stark sunshine, the brightness feels insufficient, making all the information difficult to read. This is a common limitation of transparent or semi-transparent OLED displays in direct sunlight, but it remains a point of frustration for users in bright conditions.
MG Cyberster Steering Wheel:
It features a flat-bottom steering wheel with a dual-tone suede leather finish. The steering wheel incorporates a red circular ‘Super Sport’ button that provides direct access to MG’s launch control system. This allows drivers to launch the car with maximum acceleration without having to navigate through menus, adding to the thrill of the driving experience. The steering itself feels precise and responsive, offering excellent feedback.
Cabin Materials and Tactility:
Like the dashboard, the rest of the cabin feels rich, featuring a premium mix of leather, suede, and soft-touch plastics. While most functions are controlled via the screens, there are also physical toggles and switches for essential functions such as drive modes and regenerative braking levels. These physical controls have a nice tactile feel, adding to the premium ambiance of the cabin.
Seats and Comfort:
In typical roadster fashion, the Cyberster is a two-seater. These are snug, supportive sport seats that perfectly suit the car’s performance-focused nature. I am approximately six feet tall and found the driving position to be ideal, with enough legroom and just about adequate headroom even with the roof up.
However, my colleague, who stands over 6.5 feet tall, found it difficult to get comfortable. His knees were grazing against the steering column, and his head brushed against the roof. This, however, is not uncommon for compact sportscars; models like the Porsche Cayman/Boxster also feel cramped for exceptionally tall users.
The cushioning is firm but not uncomfortable, making it suitable for longer drives. The seats offer a comprehensive list of features, including powered adjustment, ventilation, heating, and memory functions with a welcome retract feature for easy ingress and egress. Visibility is fairly good for a low-slung car, though the thick pillars at the rear limit the rearward view.
A peculiar detail is the manually adjustable inside rearview mirror, which feels out of place in an otherwise premium cabin. As expected, it does not provide a complete view of the rear, meaning drivers will rely heavily on the camera system when parking or reversing. Despite the slightly elevated seating position, getting in and out is easier than anticipated, but it still requires a bit of a duck and slide, as is typical for roadsters.
Storage and Practicality:
This is not a car built for utility, and it does not pretend to be. Cabin storage is minimal and limited to the essentials. There is a small glovebox that opens via a button, a cubby hole on the central tunnel, a pair of cupholders, and a bit of space under the armrest.
Given the way the scissor doors open, the only storage area is a small pocket with a closable lid, capable of storing only small items like a wallet or power bank. The MG Cyberster boot space is also limited, offering about 250 liters of space, regardless of whether the roof is up or down. This is adequate for a couple of cabin-sized trolleys and some rucksacks, suitable for short road trips.
Charging Options:
While it skimps on practicality, the charging options are more than adequate for an electric sports car. It is equipped with a wireless charging pad placed conveniently in the central console, which holds the phone securely even during spirited driving. Additionally, both USB Type-A and Type-C ports are available for both occupants, allowing for both wired phone charging and media connectivity. This ensures seamless integration with modern devices.
Technology and Features
The MG Cyberster features a driver-focused triple-screen setup inside the cabin. This configuration includes a 10.25-inch screen in the middle, flanked by two 7-inch screens on either side. While the layout is modern, the side screens are partially obscured by the steering wheel, which makes it challenging to view some information while driving.
